Hannes APFOLTERER’s particular pleasure is that he has been the Military Music Band Conductor of the two Federal States
of Austria (SALZBURG and VORARLBERG), in whose capitals the world famous Festivals (SALZBURG and BREGENZ) are
located. Since 2001 he is the Military Music Band Conductor of the Military Music Band TYROL in the triple Olympic
City of INNBRUCK in the Federal State of Tyrol.
The Military Music Band TYROL is the largest musical training centre of TYROL, particularly focusing on emphases relating
to practical experience. Due to its high level, the Military Music Band TYROL is also holding function as training orchestra for
the basic- and advanced training of Military Music Band Conductors in Austria.
To meet the admission criteria for the entrance examination in the course „Wind Band Conducting“ at the Tyrolean State
Conservatory, exclusively this institution is given the opportunity, if necessary, to contact the Military Music Band
Conductor regarding the provision of the Military Music Band TYROL.
Hannes APFOLTERER is a member of the examination board for the wind orchestra conducting course of the Tyrolean State Conservatory
and a member of the examination board of the Austrian Ministry of Defence in the field of study “Practical experience and basic knowledge for music officers”.
Hannes APFOLTERER’s special concern is the training of young and talented musicians, which he regards as a very important cultural contribution.
His motto, according to which he acts: “Support and Encouragement as much as possible instead of Only Demands”. Best proof of his work
are the performances of young and excellent vocal and instrumental soloists in his concerts. The large number of people who apply every
year for admission to the entrance examination at the Military Music Band TYROL speak for the high appreciation of the excellent education and training.
The Military Music Band TYROL performes in about 150 military music events per year in different musical formations.
A characteristic for the State of TYROL are the today so-called “Bezirkskonzerte” (District concerts), in former times called
“Recruitment Concerts”, which are highly appreciated from the civil audience too.
Having close relation to the State of TYROL and
its tradition, the Military Music Band TYROL essentially contributes a lot to Austria’s image on music inside the country and abroad
through a variety of high-level concerts in famous and historic concert halls but also through so-called “Music in Motion”-Performances,
open-air concerts and performances at International Military Tattoos.
Impressing shows with demanding programs are their specials. Hannes APFOLTERER attaches great importance to the optical appearance of his military musicians,
which is underlining the extraordinary musical performances. The Military Music Band TYROL can refer to a long series of international appearances,
which is listed separately.
Under the direction of military bandmaster Prof. Hannes APFOLTERER, who was promoted to colonel in July 2015, the TIROL military band can look back on a long series of international performances.

Project ANGOLA
The ANGOLAN MILITARY has made the decision to purchase the complete equipment for 3 military orchestras and 2 signal
orchestras in Austria. Impressed by the Austrian musical standard of training, they decided to acquire the necessary knowledge about
the various musical instruments and about making music in an orchestra and in formation (as practiced by Austrian military musicians)
in Tyrol as well.
With the support of the Military Command Tyrol, the Federal Ministry of Defense, the Management of the city of
Innsbruck and the Adult Education Center Tyrol, the instrumental training was provided by the Music School of the city of Innsbruck.
The Commander of the Angolan military music bands, Lieutenant Colonel Luis PEDERNEIRA, made contact with the director of the Music
School of the city of Innsbruck, MMag. Dr. Wolfram ROSENBERGER, who subsequently put together a team of teachers of the Music School
of the city of Innsbruck and from the „Tiroler Musikschulwerk“.
Members of the Angolan military bands came to Tyrol, lived in the time of their stay in Neustift in the Stubaital (Stubai Valley) and were looked after by Engelbert CANAZEI.
They completed an intensive and extensive training program as well as instrumental lessons at the Music School of the city of Innsbruck.
They were taught on the instruments flute, saxophone, percussion, tuba, clarinet and trumpet. A daily English-training course at the Adult
Education Center Tyrol taking into account the respective levels of the learners was included.
This created the basis for a better communication as portuguese is the only official language in the Republic of Angola.
On March 26, 2013, a delegation of Angola visited the Military Music Band Tyrol in Innsbruck. Always the military musicians of Angola
were frequent guests at the various performances and concerts of the Military Music Band Tyrol, not only as listeners and spectators,
but especially in the sense of further training.
The members of the military bands of the Angolan Armed Forces also included three main conductors: MADDIDI, MENDENSCH and ABEL.
The HOST NATION SUPPORT in the form of training assistance for the three main conductors – military band conductors / military officers -
by the Military Music Band of the Military Command Tyrol started in October, 2013, mainly in CONDUCTING, DRILLING and MAKING MUSIC.
An invitation to Angola of „The Government of ANGOLA“ by name to Military Bandmaster Lieutenant Colonel Hannes APFOLTERER followed.
An Austrian delegation – Engelbert CANAZEI, MMag. Dr. Wolfram ROSENBERGER (the director of the Music School of the city of Innsbruck),
Otmar HAMMERSCHMIDT with son and Military Bandmaster Lieutenant Colonel Hannes APFOLTERER – set off for Luanda, the
capital of Angola. They made various appointments, completed visits to military music bands and barracks, discussed
the structure of a military music-academy in Angola and attended an appointment with the Chief of the General Staff.
At the final examination of the military musicians of the Angolan Armed Forces on May 30, 2014, in Tyrol, Military Bandmaster Lieutenant Colonel Hannes Apfolter has been the juror.
The final concert with the certificate distribution to the military musicians of Angola took place on June 17, 2014, in Neustift in the Stubai-Valley in Tyrol.
On April 11th, 2015, the last EDELWEISS-GALA-CONCERT of the Military Music Band TYROL took place in the concert hall „Tyrol“ in the Congress Innsbruck. (Report of Professor Dr. Friedrich WEYERMÜLLER see attached).
